CATHCART

David Cathcart (1804-1867), schrijver, was vanaf ongeveer 1840 bekend in de psychiatrie. In 1841 werd hij opgenomen in het Glasgow Asylum; in 1849 in het Crichton Royal Asylum. Er was sprake van een psychotisch toestandsbeeld. In zijn papieren staat onder andere dat hij dacht dat hij: ' …lived at various periods in world history... that he fought in terrific wars as Marshall Narbonne which he describes and in which it would appear that one half of the population of Europe perished; that he was equally distinguished in internecine combat in Edinburgh where thousands perished in defence of the Protestant cause; that his heroic opposition to Napoleon... is a matter of notoriety … '. Zijn verwardheid komt naar voren uit de schetsen die hij maakte. (Bron: Br J Psych ’05;186.5.A18).

Er gaan er meer volgen - ik vind dit een boeiend onderwerp, de uiting van emoties (of symptomen) in kunst en dan zeker dit soort heftige emoties.
